CEA and Playground Global Sign Agreement to Advance Deep Tech Commercialization

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Playground Global, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm focused on deep tech, have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a strategic partnership aimed at helping breakthrough technologies move from the lab into commercial companies.

The agreement sets up a framework for the two organizations to identify, develop, and support early-stage deep tech companies across fields including advanced computing, microelectronics, AI, quantum technologies, energy, and biotechnology. Specifically, they plan to explore two main areas of cooperation: joint research and development work between CEA's research institutes, including CEA-Leti, its microelectronics-focused institute, and Playground's portfolio of early-stage companies; and joint evaluation of deep tech projects and startups coming out of CEA's labs, with the goal of helping them mature technologically and scale commercially.

The broader aim is to strengthen the path from academic research to real-world commercial impact by pairing Playground's experience building and scaling frontier technology companies with CEA's scientific research and technology-transfer capabilities.
