Mitsubishi Electric, Sony Semiconductor Solutions to Form Joint Venture for AI Vision Sensor Solutions in Manufacturing

|

Mitsubishi Electric  and Sony Semiconductor have entered into a definitive agreement on a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating automation and advancing manufacturing equipment and manual operations across the manufacturing industry. As part of the partnership, the two companies will establish a new joint venture, Advanced Vision Solutions, expected to begin operations in October 2026, pending necessary regulatory approvals and clearances.

Through the joint venture, the companies plan to develop and offer vision sensor solutions built on advanced technologies that enable AI-based analysis of visual data directly on image sensors. These solutions are designed to precisely capture conditions and changes across manufacturing environments that have traditionally been difficult to visualize, connecting that information to decision-making and control processes. The goal is to support automation and autonomous operation across a wide range of manufacturing equipment, contributing to labor savings and unmanned operations.

The partnership brings together Sony's leading image sensor and edge AI technologies with Mitsubishi Electric's extensive expertise in factory automation (FA) control systems, built up over many years. The resulting solutions are intended to precisely capture information on manufacturing site conditions, product quality, equipment operation...
