PM Modi Inaugurates CG Semi OSAT Facility in Sanand, Gujarat, Marking Third Semiconductor Plant Operational
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat on July 4. This is the third semiconductor plant to commence operations in India, following the first on February 28 and the second on March 31.

The facility, developed by CG Power in partnership with Japan’s Renesas Electronics and Thailand’s Stars Microelectronics, has begun commercial production and shipments. The first commercial consignment was dispatched on June 19 to customers of Renesas in Kuala Lumpur. The plant performs chip assembly, packaging, testing, and related services for applications in consumer electronics, industrial equipment, automotive, power electronics, and other sectors.

The project advanced from groundbreaking in 2024 to commercial production in a 27-month timeline, with chip testing starting by August 2025. The pilot G1 unit has a peak processing capacity of about 0.5 million units per day. The larger G2 facility is expected to become operational by the end of 2026.
