Taiwan-India Sign First Semiconductor-Focused Academia-Industry MOU in Chennai
Director-General Stephen Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Chennai attended and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on industry-academia collaboration among Chennai Institute of Technology (CIT), National Formosa University (NFU) of Taiwan, and Air Gas Electronic Materials Enterprise (AGEM).
The tripartite agreement covers semiconductor-related research. Under the MOU, doctoral candidates will receive joint academic supervision from CIT and NFU, along with industrial mentorship and research support from AGEM. The program aims to promote advanced research, international mobility, and industry-academia engagement.

In remarks at the ceremony, Director-General Hsu stated that technological progress depends on sustained investment in education, research, and talent development. He contrasted the technology used in the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing with that in today’s smart devices. He referenced Taiwan’s investments in education, research and development, and industrial growth since the 1970s, which contributed to companies such as TSMC, and noted Taiwan’s role in the global supply chain.
