Solar PV powered gymnasium wins Swiss solar prize

Gymnasium complex in Visp, Switzerland has won Swiss Solar Prize. The Swiss Solar Prize is awarded annually to people or institutions involved in the promotion of solar energy.

The solar powered Gymnasium has installed Kyocera solar modules on three roof surfaces, each at a 15-degree incline, of a partitioned gymnasium facility. The solar PV modules are smoothly integrated into the facade and blend in with the overall architecture aesthetically.

The solar power from the solar PV cells is approximately 140,000 kWh of energy per year from the 145 kW PV system covering around 41 percent of the gymnasium’s electricity needs. The engineers who have built this solar Power system have used high efficiency solar cells from Kyocera. The solar panels are also built to withstand hailstorms.
