22% of shipments are 5 inch+ screen smart phone/phablets

Buying a smart phone with a screen size of anything higher than 5 inch is becoming craze among smartphone buyers around the world. The phones with the display size in the range of 5 inch to 6 inch serves the purpose of both smart-phone as well as tablet. From the top mobile phone makers such as Apple and Samsung and to many China-based OEMs, all have launched interesting models with the screen size in the range of 5 - 6 inch. Market researcher Canalys has reported the Large-screen handsets account for 22% of the total shipments. Below are the market highlights shared by Canalys on the latest smart phone sales in the third quarter of 2013: Over a quarter of a billion smart phones shipped worldwide in Q3 2013 as the market grew 44% year-on-year. The top two vendors, Samsung and Apple, maintained their positions, with market shares of 34% and 15% respectively. Huawei, Lenovo and LG completed the top five. Shipments of large-screen smart phones, 5" and above, reached their highest ever level, accounting for 22% of shipments or 56 million units. This trend continues to be driven mainly by Samsung, which dominates the large-screen segment.
