Corning opens optical fiber plant in India

Corning has opened its new optical fiber manufacturing facility in India. Located in Chakan, near Pune, in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Phase II industrial park. This plant is the Corning's first manufacturing facility in India. Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan inaugurates this facility.

India is becoming bigger market for optical cables due to its plan to provide high bandwidth network to rural areas. However best the wireless technology enhanced to handle high bandwidth, optical is more suitable for high-speed data transmission. In India, it's going to be a mix of wireless and optical links.

This manufacturing facility by Corning in India was set up within a year. Government of Maharashtra was praised for its support to this project, to create investor friendly environment in Maharashtra.
