Extreme importance of IoT makes ARM to acquire Sensinode
For a processor IP company such as ARM, which is specialised in low-power processor IP for mobile devices, Internet of things is very important area, because the devices which are connected to Internet need to consume very less power, some of the outdoor devices which work on energy harvesting can only use systems which are most power efficient.
ARM is getting equipped with software technology for the Internet of things by acquiring Sensinode Oy, a company specialised in software technology for the Internet of things (IoT). Sensinode has created the 6LoWPAN and CoAP standards for low cost low power devices, and has been a key contributor to the IETF, ZigBee IP, ETSI and OMA standardization efforts. ARM said it will continue the commercial offering of Sensinode’s NanoStack and NanoService products to existing and new customers.
There is nothing unusual, if any analyst predicts triple digit growth for Internet of things devices. It is just a beginning, so many things in the world going to be connected to the Internet. This gives another big market opportunity for the electronics, IT, embedded and semiconductor industry
“ARM is dedicated to enabling a standards-based Internet of Things where billions of devices of all types and capabilities are connected through interoperable Internet Protocols and Web Services,” said John Cornish, executive vice president and genera...
