Bourns buys Jensen Devices’ assets

Bourns, Inc., has announced it has completed its purchase of considerably all of the assets of Jensen Devices AB. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Jensen Devices, headquartered and with manufacturing operations in Stockholm, Sweden, designs and manufactures gas discharge tubes (GDTs). The company’s Sparctube series of GDTs are used for switching ignition circuits for automotive HID headlights. Jensen Devices also services industrial and telecom markets with GDTs used as overvoltage protectors.

The purchase widens the technical capabilities of Bourns' GDT product line while opening the automotive HID market for the company.

"Jensen Devices' novel and patented FLAT gas tube technology promises some very beneficial features to Bourns' customers, and will further strengthen Bourns' position as a leading supplier of circuit protection solutions," said Dr. Erik Meijer, president of Bourns Electronics. "This acquisition further demonstrates Bourns' dedication to supplying our customers with the best and most reliable electronic solutions to satisfy the diverse needs of today as well as the unmet needs of tomorrow."

Bourns has more than 35 years of experience developing GDTs for the circuit protection market. The company has made 10 acquisitions in the previous 12 years, including Joslyn Electronics' communication protection products business, Texas Instruments' solid state Telecom protection business, Fultec's Transient Blocking Unit technology and the Protection Product businesses of Corning Cable Systems and Emerson Network Power.
