MediaTek announced the introduction of its AI-powered AQM (Active Queue Management), described as the industry's first comprehensive AI QoS engine for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The technology is designed to lower network latency for cloud gaming, delivering up to 10 times lower latency for NVIDIA GeForce NOW users worldwide.

The solution targets network congestion issues in home environments that can cause lag during cloud gaming. It is available through a firmware upgrade on MediaTek T930-based CPEs and requires no upgrades to operator core networks or RAN infrastructure.

MediaTek’s AI AQM combines standards-based Active Queue Management with an AI-powered QoS engine. It continuously monitors real-time network conditions, including radio quality, uplink contention, and household traffic load, and dynamically adjusts congestion avoidance and scheduling policies to maintain low latency.

The system operates entirely at the CPE edge and is ecosystem-agnostic, requiring no modifications to applications, content providers, or cloud platforms. It uses privacy-preserving flow metadata to identify latency-sensitive traffic and applies AQM-driven congestion control and uplink-optimized scheduling without Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). This approach benefits multiple applications, including cloud gaming, video calls, remote work, and general browsing, by reducing latency and jitter even during peak home network usage.

For NVIDIA GeForce NOW, the AI AQM helps maintain smooth and responsive streaming under varying network conditions and busy home environments. It reduces congestion-induced delay, stabilizes jitter, supports faster input response, more consistent frame delivery, and fewer gameplay disruptions.

“With our AI-powered AQM, MediaTek is not only addressing today’s network demands; we’re also laying a future-proof foundation for next-generation home entertainment,” said HC Hwang, General Manager of Wireless Communication Systems and Partnerships. “By bringing intelligence to congestion control at the CPE edge, our solution empowers NVIDIA GeForce NOW gamers with the responsive, reliable network performance they deserve.”
