Murata Manufacturing has introduced the GCJ21BD72A225KE02, a soft-termination chip multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) designed for automotive powertrain and safety equipment. The GCJ21BD72A225KE02 is the world’s first soft-termination chip MLCC to achieve 2.2μF capacitance at 100Vdc rating in the compact 0805-inch (2.0 × 1.25 mm) size. It is based on Murata’s proprietary ceramic material design with fine particle size and uniformity control.

This product delivers approximately 51% reduction in board mounting area compared to Murata’s previous 2.2μF/100Vdc offering in a larger 1206-inch size. It also provides approximately 2.2 times higher capacitance than Murata’s previous 0805-inch, 100Vdc MLCC.
The soft-termination structure enhances reliability by absorbing board flexure stress caused by vibration and thermal cycling, thereby reducing the risk of post-mount cracking.
The capacitor operates over a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and meets X7T temperature characteristics according to EIA standards.
The new MLCC addresses requirements driven by vehicle electrification, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving technologies, and the increasing adoption of 48V power systems.
Murata’s research as of June 3, 2026, confirms this as the first such product in the specified size and ratings.
