Mitsubishi Electric Launches Free Data-Provision Service for 8th-Generation IGBT Inverter Development

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced it will launch a free service on June 28 to provide design and validation data from a proprietary prototype inverter for power conversion systems (PCSs). The data covers three-level inverter designs, including experimental results from a technical collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan. It targets Mitsubishi Electric’s Industrial LV100-type 1.2kV IGBT Module for large-capacity PCSs and the Industrial NX-type 1.2kV IGBT Module for medium- to large-capacity PCSs.

Mitsubishi Electric will supply comprehensive data on parts selection, design, manufacturing, and validation to reduce user workloads. This includes geometry, component layout, electrical circuitry, thermal characteristics, short-circuit protection, and other real-world evaluation results.

The global expansion of renewable energy has increased demand for megawatt-class, high-voltage, and large-capacity PCSs. These systems often use three-level inverter topologies for higher efficiency and compact size. However, incorporating power semiconductors presents challenges in thermal design, fault protection, high-density layout, and system-level validation.

The new service aims to address these issues and shorten time to market for customers developing medium- to large-capacity renewable energy inverters.
