Vishay Intertechnology, has released four series of unidirectional and bidirectional 3000 W surface-mount transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the new DFN6546A package with wettable flanks. The devices include the Automotive Grade T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA PAR series, which are AEC-Q101 qualified and specified for operation up to +185 °C, as well as the 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA TRANSZORB series that meet LL15i Industrial Reliability Qualification.

The DFN6546A package measures 6.5 mm x 4.6 mm with a typical height of 0.88 mm. It is footprint-compatible with the SMPC (TO-277A) package and provides twice the power dissipation at a 20% lower profile. Relative to the SMC (DO-214AB) package, it delivers the same 3000 W power dissipation with a 76% reduction in volume.

The construction incorporates advanced die placement technology that supports higher copper content and larger chip sizes. The TVS diodes are designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage transients caused by inductive load switching and lightning.

Automotive applications for the T3KNxxA and T3KNxxCA series include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), lidar, camera, infotainment and sensor systems, DC/DC converters, battery management systems (BMS), onboard chargers, electric power steering (EPS), traction inverters, central control units, and electrical motor drives.

Industrial applications for the 3KDFNxxA and 3KDFNxxCA series include robot control boards, process and flow control instrumentation, automation systems, generator start controllers, 60 kW energy storage systems, server power modules, consumer entertainment devices, and telecom and medical equipment.

The devices provide maximum clamping voltages ranging from 16.7 V to 33.2 V for the unidirectional T3KNxxA and 3KDFNxxA series, and 16.7 V to 137 V for the bidirectional T3KNxxCA and 3KDFNxxCA series. Breakdown voltages are 12 V to 24 V for T3KNxxA/3KDFNxxA and 12 V to 100 V for the CA variants. Stand-off voltages range from 10.2 V to 20.5 V and 10.2 V to 85.5 V, respectively.

Maximum junction temperatures are +185 °C for the automotive PAR series and +175 °C for the industrial TRANSZORB series. The wettable flanks enable automatic optical inspection (AOI). The diodes have a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 1 per J-STD-020, with a peak reflow temperature of 260 °C. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and their matte tin-plated leads satisfy the JESD 201 Class 2 whisker test.

Samples and production quantities are available immediately with lead times of 12 weeks.
