Vishay Intertechnology, introduced the VLMRGB1500 tricolor LED on March 4, 2025, in Malvern, Pennsylvania. The device is housed in a compact 1.0 mm by 1.0 mm by 0.65 mm 0404 surface-mount package with common anode and separate cathode connections for the red, true green, and blue LED chips.

This configuration allows independent control of each chip, enabling color mixing to produce every color within the gamut triangle area defined in the CIE 1931 color space. The LED delivers luminous intensity up to 252 mcd at 5 mA forward current.

Key specifications at IF = 5 mA include:

Red (AllnGaP technology): Luminous intensity 26–54 mcd, wavelength 615–625 nm, forward voltage 1.5–2.15 V.
True green (InGaN technology): Luminous intensity 122–252 mcd, wavelength 520–530 nm, forward voltage 2.0–3.2 V.
Blue (InGaN technology): Luminous intensity 22–46 mcd, wavelength 466–473 nm, forward voltage 2.0–3.2 V.

The angle of half intensity is ±60° for all colors.

The VLMRGB1500 operates over a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, has a Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) of 3, and withstands ESD voltages up to 2 kV for red and 1 kV for blue and green per JESD22-A114-B. It is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, Vishay Green, compatible with IR reflow soldering, and categorized per reel for luminous intensity and color.

The package is 70% smaller than PLCC-4 alternatives and uses high-brightness AllnGaP and InGaN technologies. The device is fully compatible with competing products, allowing direct replacement without PCB layout or driving circuitry changes.

Target applications include switch illumination, status indicators, dashboard signal and symbol illumination in micro-mobility, energy storage, and industrial equipment; full-color message and video display boards; keyboard illumination in computers; backlighting in consumer devices, home appliances, and telecom equipment; and accent and decorative lighting.

Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of 17 weeks.
