ROHM Launches BD9xxN5 Series 500mA LDO Regulators with Nano Cap Technology for Ultra-Small Capacitor Stability
ROHM has developed the BD9xxN5 Series of low-dropout (LDO) regulator ICs, which provide a maximum output current of 500mA and incorporate the company’s proprietary ultra-stable control technology called Nano Cap. The series includes 18 products intended for 12V and 24V primary power supply applications in automotive equipment, industrial equipment, and communication infrastructure.
Electronic devices increasingly require higher density in smaller form factors, creating demand for power supply ICs that maintain stable operation with small-capacity output capacitors to enable space savings and greater design flexibility. Stable performance with output capacitors of 1µF or less has presented technical challenges.
In 2022, ROHM introduced the BD9xxN1 Series LDO regulators with 150mA output current using Nano Cap technology, allowing stable operation with output capacitors as small as 100nF. This series has seen adoption in various applications.
The BD9xxN5 Series extends this capability to 500mA output current—more than three times higher than the earlier series—making it suitable for applications needing greater power delivery. It achieves low output voltage ripple of approximately 250mV during load current changes from 1mA to 500mA within 1&micr...
