Vishay Intertechnology, announced an extension to its 193 PUR-SI series of miniature snap-in power aluminum electrolytic capacitors with new voltage ratings of 550 V and 600 V.
The Vishay BCcomponents devices provide up to 30 % higher ripple current compared to standard solutions in equivalent case sizes and offer a longer useful life.
Designers traditionally use three 400 V to 450 V capacitors in series, along with voltage balancing resistors across each device, to manage DC bus voltages up to 1100 V. This configuration increases design complexity and introduces additional potential failure points. The new 550 V and 600 V ratings enable designers to achieve the required voltage range with fewer components and without voltage balancing circuits, reducing PCB space and bill-of-materials costs. The higher voltage headroom also contributes to extended capacitor lifetimes and improved system reliability.
The capacitors are designed to handle the switching currents in high-power converters, supporting ripple currents up to 3.27 A. They have a specified useful life of 5000 hours at +105 °C, allowing operation for more than 25 years in applications with ambient temperatures up to +60 °C.
The devices feature a cylindrical aluminum case with a blue insulating sleeve. Capacitance ranges from 47 µF to 820 µF across 25 compact case sizes from 22 mm by 25 mm to 35 mm by 60 mm. They are RoHS-compliant and available with 3-pin keyed polarity snap-in terminals for stable PCB mounting.
As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolyte, the 193 PUR-SI series is suited for smoothing, buffering, and DC-Link filtering in:
Switch-mode power supplies
Chargers, battery management systems (BMS), and motor controls in electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV)
Industrial motor drives and air conditioners
Solar inverters
Medical equipment
Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
Welding equipment
