Enhancing Safety in Electric Two-Wheelers and other EVs with This New Safety Focused Contactor
TDK launched the HVC27*MC series of compact high-voltage DC contactors. These devices feature a mechanically linked, normally-closed auxiliary contact, known as a mirror contact, that complies with IEC 60947-4-1. The mirror contact provides contact position feedback for applications in electric mobility and industrial energy systems.
High-performance electric two-wheelers, such as electric motorcycles or scooters with battery packs with high voltage output, require robust battery disconnect units (BDUs) to isolate the high-voltage system during faults or emergencies. The TDK HVC27*MC high-voltage DC contactor (rated up to 1000 V, 300-500 A continuous) integrates into the BDU as the primary switch, leveraging its compact size (86.5 x 95 x 44 mm, 530 g) and bidirectional, polarity-free design. The standout feature is the mechanically linked, normally-closed mirror contact (IEC 60947-4-1 compliant), which provides direct feedback on main contact position.
The contactors are gas-filled and designed for use in battery disconnect units (BDUs), energy storage systems (ESS), DC fast charging, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
