STMicroelectronics ISM6HG256X Sensor: Industrial IoT Edge AI, Dual-Range IMU, Harsh Environment
STMicroelectronics has released the ISM6HG256X, a motion sensor that combines low-g (±16g) and high-g (±256g) acceleration detection with a gyroscope in a single package.
The ISM6HG256X supports industrial IoT applications including asset tracking, worker safety wearables, condition monitoring, robotics, factory automation, and black box event recording. It integrates dual full-scale range accelerometers and eliminates the need for multiple sensors.
The sensor includes embedded edge processing with machine-learning core (MLC), finite state machine (FSM), adaptive self-configuration (ASC), and sensor fusion low power (SFLP). These features enable real-time event detection and 3D orientation tracking with current consumption of a few µA.
Simone Ferri, APMS Group VP & MEMS Sub-Group GM, STMicroelectronics, stated that traditional solutions require multiple sensors for low and high acceleration ranges, increasing complexity, power consumption, and cost. The ISM6HG256X provides a single integrated sensor with machine-learning running inside the IMU for motion, activity, and event classification.
Edge AI in the sensor processes data on the device, reduces latency and energy use, handles data locally, and supports scalability for applications....
