Vishay Intertechnology Unveils 150 W Space-Grade Planar Transformers for 28 V Forward Converters in Avionics and Military Applications
Vishay Intertechnology introduced the SGTPL-28 series of 150 W low-profile planar transformers, the first such devices optimized for 28 V input forward converters in avionics, military, and space applications. These components provide lower cost, smaller size, and higher density compared to traditional planar transformers and comply with MIL-PRF-27 level T, INST-EEE-002, and MIL-STD-981 standards.
The SGTPL-28 series supports 28 V forward converters, high-reliability switch-mode power supplies, and active clamp or dual switch forward converters. Multiple secondary windings with center taps enable powering up to two 12 V channels or four 5 V channels. The transformers feature over-molded windings, operation up to +130 °C, and resistance to thermal shock cycles, mechanical shock, and vibration.
The devices achieve up to 40% greater winding fill than traditional planar transformers, reducing package size to conserve PCB space while maintaining efficiency and power density. Winding technology and internal construction allow customization for specific designs. Materials and production methods contribute to lower costs, with strategic inventory management enabling short lead times, typically without non-recurring engineering charges for customization.
