New STMicroelectronics 5MP Image Sensors Enhance Industrial Automation, Security, and Retail Applications
STMicroelectronics has introduced four new 5MP CMOS image sensors—VD1943, VB1943, VD5943, and VB5943—under its ST BrightSense portfolio, targeting advanced vision applications in industrial automation, security, and smart retail. These sensors, designed for tasks such as machine and robotic vision, biometric identification, traffic management, inventory management, and automated checkout, leverage ST’s expertise in optical sensing, 3D stacking, and high-volume manufacturing.
The sensors feature hybrid global and rolling shutter modes, enabling developers to optimize image capture for specific needs. Global shutter mode ensures motion-artifact-free video, while rolling shutter mode supports low-noise, high-detail imaging, making the sensors suitable for high-speed automated manufacturing and object tracking. Alexandre Balmefrezol, Executive Vice President and General Manager of STMicroelectronics’s Imaging Sub-Group, noted that this dual-mode architecture offers unique flexibility and performance, streamlining system design by reducing the need for multiple chips.
With a compact 2.25 µm pixel design and advanced 3D stacking, the sensors achieve a die size of 5.76 mm by 4.46 mm and a package size of 10.3...
