MaxLinear’s MxL7650x Buck Converters Enhance Power Efficiency in Data Centers and Networking Systems

MaxLinear’s MxL76508, MxL76503, and MxL76502 buck converters, collectively known as the MxL7650x family, provide a high-efficiency, scalable, and thermally stable power architecture for multi-rail systems. These devices are designed for applications in data centers, high-speed Ethernet switches, servers, laptops, industrial control systems, and consumer electronics, supporting processors from Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA.

The MxL7650x series includes synchronous buck converters delivering up to 8A continuous current, with the MxL76508 operating at a 700kHz switching frequency and the MxL76503 and MxL76502 at 720kHz. They utilize constant-on-time (CoT) closed-loop control and forced continuous conduction mode (FCCM) for low ripple across dynamic load ranges and fast transient response. Pulse-frequency-modulation (PFM) minimizes energy dissipation at light loads. The MxL76508 is housed in a 3mm × 3mm QFN package, while the MxL76503 and MxL76502 use a SOT23-6 package, both optimizing board space and thermal performance.
