Diodes Incorporated’s AL5958Q LED Driver Enhances Automotive Dynamic Lighting with 48-Channel Matrix Technology
Diodes introduced the AL5958Q, an automotive-compliant 48-channel matrix LED driver designed for dynamic lighting in vehicle platforms. Based in Plano, Texas, the company states the device supports up to 32 scans and is tailored for narrow pixel mini- and micro-LED displays used in applications such as central information displays, cluster displays, head-up displays, grill and emblem lights, body LED panels, interior lights, and rear lights.
The AL5958Q includes intelligent matrix display command functions to reduce microcontroller processing demands. These functions feature automatic black-frame insertion to address scanning switch blurs, ghost image reduction for parasitic capacitors, short-LED caterpillar suppression, open-LED fail line detection, staggered current output delay to limit inrush current, grayscale enhancement for low-brightness uniformity, a grayscale clock (GCK) watchdog timer, and a sleep mode for power efficiency.
With 16 integrated N-MOSFET switches and scan control, the AL5958Q supports static and dynamic systems with scan sequences from 0 to 32, enabling animated lighting displays. Multiple devices can be daisy-chained for larger RGB displays and local dimming. The driver offers 16-bit resolution dimming and RGB support for precise brightness control and color mixing, with current output configurable via three external current-sensing re...
