Emerson’s PACSystems RX3i CPS400 Safety Controller Enhances SIL2 Designs for Industrial Automation
Emerson has introduced the PACSystems RX3i CPS400 Safety Controller, designed for Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) applications in infrastructure, fire and gas, burner management, and emergency shutdown systems. The controller supports up to 2,000 I/O points and features a 64-megabyte memory capacity, enabling scalability for complex, data-driven projects.

The RX3i CPS400 integrates with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), and Modbus TCP for peer-to-peer and host connectivity, providing operational visibility. It incorporates Secure Boot and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) standards for data integrity and threat protection. Certified to IEC 61508 and compliant with IEC 61511, the controller uses pre-built, safety-certified function blocks and templates to streamline system certification.
Available in simplex or redundant configurations, the controller supports duplex communications via EGD, utilizing the black channel principle for connectivity with Emerson’s PACSystems VersaMax SafetyNet I/O system. Configuration is managed through Emerson’s PAC Machine Edition software, which supports programmable logic controllers, operator interfaces, and other automation components for integrated development.
