TT Electronics, a UK-based provider of engineered electronics based in Woking, announced the launch of two new product series: FMW fusible MELF wirewound resistors and HSMW high surge MELF wirewound resistors. Both are 0309 size, 1W-rated products with UL1412 fusing capability at up to 240V. The FMW series is designed for fast fusing performance, while the HSMW series is engineered to handle large inrush or power line surges.
The resistors, the first surface-mount device (SMD) offerings from TT Electronics with UL recognition, have a 9 x 3.5mm footprint, occupying less PCB space than lead-formed SMD alternatives. They provide rapid line voltage fusing to protect against fire in case of power supply input circuit faults. The resistors support a short-term overload of up to 6.25W for 5 seconds and an energy capacity of up to 6.5J, with the ability to withstand inrush currents and lightning strike surges up to 3.5kV. These features allow designers to reduce product size and cost while maintaining safety and reliability in industrial and white goods applications.
