Vishay unveils enhanced IR transceiver modules for extended range IrDA

Vishay introduced upgraded versions of its TFBS4xx and TFDU4xx series of infrared (IR) transceiver modules tailored for IrDA applications. The enhancements include a 20% longer link distance and improved electrostatic discharge (ESD) robustness up to 2 kV. With support for data rates up to 115.2 kbit/s (SIR) and link distances of 1 meter, the devices are intended for wireless communication and data transmission in energy meters and monitors, industrial automation controls, mobile phones, and medical equipment. To increase battery life in portable devices, the modules offer low power consumption with an idle supply current of < 70 μA, down to < 1 μA in shutdown mode. Each device within the Vishay Semiconductors TFBS4xxx and TFDU4xxx series integrates a PIN photodiode, infrared emitter (IRED), and low-power control IC into a single package. Through the enhancement of IR transceivers using Vishay’s cutting-edge in-house IC and surface emitter chip technology, the company ensures the sustained availability of IRDC products for its customers. Additionally, serving as seamless replacements for current devices, these modules facilitate cost savings by obviating the necessity for PCB redesigns. In adherence to the latest IrDA physical layer specification, the TFBS4xxx and TFDU4xxx series devices maintain backward compatibility and are available in both top- and side-view surface-...
