ABB no-code Wizard Easy Programming to support industrial robots

Date: 23/11/2023
ABB Robotics has expanded the reach of its Wizard Easy Programming software, which is free of cost, to encompass its six-axis industrial robots that are powered by an OmniCore controller, in addition to its collaborative robots. This move makes ABB the pioneer in the robot manufacturing industry to provide a programming tool that is user-friendly and does not require any coding for both cobots and six-axis industrial robots. This step will help new users to overcome the obstacles to automation and provide ecosystem partners and integrators with an effective tool to assist their clients.

“Addressing industry challenges and opportunities is essential to sustain and accelerate the worldwide adoption of robotics automation," says Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics. “By extending Wizard Easy Programming to our six-axis industrial robots, ABB Robotics is responding to the scarcity of skilled labor and rising manufacturer demand for simple and easy-to use robot programming software for their robot fleets.”

Wizard Easy Programming is a user-friendly software that employs a visual, code-free, drag-and-drop programming method to streamline the creation of robot applications. This software significantly reduces the time and effort required for both novice and experienced robot users to develop applications. In fact, what would typically take one week of training and another week for development can now be accomplished in just a matter of minutes. Since its initial launch in 2020, Wizard Easy Programming has gained widespread popularity and has been extensively utilized across various applications utilizing ABB's collaborative robot portfolio, which includes the Yumi, SWIFTI, and GoFa cobot families.

The software assists untrained operators in creating robot applications like arc welding or machine tending. Additionally, it enhances operational adaptability by enabling users to modify existing programs and pre-programmed blocks that govern a wide range of behaviors, including robot movements, signal instructions, and force control. All of this is made possible through its user-friendly graphical interface.

Wizard Easy Programming is designed to meet the needs of both beginners and advanced users. It includes a feature called Skill Creator, which assists system integrators and other experts in creating personalized Wizard blocks for their clients. This tool simplifies the process of developing specialized tasks like machine tending, welding, and complex applications such as medical inspections. Additionally, ecosystem partners who are developing accessories like grippers, feeders, and cameras will have access to a digital tool that allows them to share product-specific functionalities, regardless of the robot they are working with.

All cobots and new six-axis industrial robots powered by ABB's OmniCore robot controller family come with Wizard Easy Programming preinstalled. This family of controllers is known for delivering an average energy savings of 20 percent and futureproofing deployments with built-in digital connectivity and over 1000 scalable functions.
