Rohde & Schwarz adds eight-channel R&S MXO 5 to next-gen oscilloscopes

Date: 03/11/2023
Rohde & Schwarz introduces the latest addition to its oscilloscope lineup, the R&S MXO 5. Leveraging the advanced MXO-EP processing ASIC technology, developed by Rohde & Schwarz and previously featured in the R&S MXO 4, the new eight-channel R&S MXO 5 oscilloscopes elevate measurement performance to new heights.

The R&S MXO 5 offers unparalleled signal analysis in both the time and frequency domains, surpassing all other oscilloscopes on the market. With 4.5 million acquisitions per second and 18 million waveforms per second across multiple channels, engineers can capture even the most intricate signal details and infrequent events with exceptional precision. Additionally, the R&S MXO 5 boasts digital triggering on all eight channels, allowing for accurate isolation of small signal anomalies and providing a groundbreaking capability of 45,000 FFTs per second for unparalleled spectrum signal viewing, particularly for EMI and harmonic testing.

Rohde & Schwarz said that The R&S MXO 5 boasts the world's fastest acquisition capture rate, enabling it to capture up to 99% of real-time signal activity. This feature allows engineers to detect rare and random events that are often missed by other oscilloscopes, resulting in more efficient design debugging across various applications, including power conversion and automotive analysis. Additionally, the oscilloscope's capabilities make power and signal integrity measurements, as well as logic and bus protocol debugging, effortless.

Philip Diegmann, Vice President of Oscilloscopes at Rohde & Schwarz, says: “Launching the R&S MXO 4 in 2022 introduced the next generation of oscilloscopes with unmatched performance and value. At Rohde & Schwarz, we continue to evolve the usability of our oscilloscopes to new levels. Today, we are excited to introduce the R&S MXO 5, continuing our legacy of oscilloscope excellence. Building on the same engineering breakthroughs, this oscilloscope series was meticulously designed by our dedicated development team to capture both the big picture and smallest details of electrical signals with unparalleled accuracy and speed. Evolved for more challenges, the scopes will speed up our customers’ understanding and testing of their electronic systems.”

Deepest-in-class standard memory
The R&S MXO 5 series provides a standard simultaneous acquisition memory of 500 Mpoints across all eight channels, surpassing the competition's standard memory capacity. This generous storage capacity allows for comprehensive data capture. Additionally, users have the option to extend the memory, doubling the recording length to 1 Gpoints, catering to the needs of the most demanding applications. The remarkable memory depth of the R&S MXO 5 oscilloscope plays a crucial role in various troubleshooting tasks, enabling the capture of extended time periods while maintaining precise bandwidth information, even when using slower time base settings.

First digital trigger for eight channels

The R&S MXO 5 oscilloscope has revolutionized signal analysis by introducing the first eight-channel oscilloscope with digital triggering. With a sensitivity of 0.0001 div, the digital trigger surpasses all other oscilloscope triggers, enabling engineers to accurately isolate small physical layer anomalies, even in the presence of large signals. This trigger sensitivity is unmatched by any other instrument on the market. Unlike other instruments that require signal processing corrections to align analog path trigger events, the digital trigger seamlessly complements the 18-bit vertical architecture in the oscilloscopes, resulting in faster and less noisy trigger performance. With the R&S MXO 5, engineers can fully leverage the precision of the digital trigger and vertical architecture to achieve unparalleled signal analysis.

Superior RF measurement

The R&S MXO 5 showcases unparalleled proficiency in RF measurements, encompassing both the time and frequency domains. It proudly stands as the pioneering oscilloscope, boasting an impressive 45,000 FFTs (Fast Fourier Transforms) per second. This remarkable velocity, coupled with the unique capability to exhibit four distinct time-independent spectra concurrently, grants engineers an unrivaled level of RF signal visibility that surpasses all others in its class. These advanced functionalities are inherent to the standard R&S MXO 5 attributes.

Evolved user experience

The R&S MXO 5 oscilloscopes boast a remarkable 15.6" full-HD capacitive touchscreen and a user-friendly interface that streamlines the learning process, providing an immersive and seamless visual experience. With its compact design and innovative VESA mounting, these oscilloscopes are perfect for any engineering workspace. Additionally, the R&S MXO 5 features the industry's lowest audible noise level, ensuring a quiet and focused lab environment for precise engineering tasks.

Low starting price

The R&S MXO 5 oscilloscopes come in four and eight-channel models with bandwidth ranges from 100 MHz to 2 GHz. The eight-channel models have a starting price of EUR 19,500, the lowest in the industry. Users can upgrade to 16 digital channels with an MSO option, an integrated dual-channel 100 MHz arbitrary generator, protocol decode and triggering options for industry-standard buses, and a frequency response analyzer to enhance the instrument's capabilities.
