AMD Ryzen Z1 chips power exclusive Windows 11 gaming device

Can exclusive portable gaming devices take on PC gaming and smartphone gaming? PC motherboard and notebook maker Asus and processor chip maker AMD looking this is as a market opportunity where Asus planned to make a handheld gaming device performing like PC gaming application by using extremely advanced gaming-specific processors from AMD.

AMD has launched two new processors called "Ryzen Z1 Series" which includes Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme. These processors are designed to give gamers ultimate graphics experience by consuming less battery power in the range of 9 -30 Watts. These processors used AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics. Asus launching new mobile portable handheld PC gaming device called Asus ROG Ally based on both Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

AMD says on its product page "game for hours with breath taking visuals", that means improved power performance and graphics performance.

“At AMD, we’re continually advancing the next generation of gaming experiences, from consoles to desktops to on-the-go handheld devices,” said Jason Banta, corporate vice president and general manager, Client OEM at AMD. “Ryzen Z1 processors deliver gamers an elite gaming experience and extreme portability in exciting gaming form factors.”

AMD Ryzen Z1 has six processor cores and 12 threads and Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processors has 8 processor cores and 16 threads. The on chip processor cache size is 22 MB with L1 cache of 16 MB and L2 cache of 6 MB. AMD RDNA 3 architecture is designed to handle graphically intensive modern games smoothly. AMD said "Users can optimize their game play with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition by utilizing features including AMD Radeon Super Resolution2, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening3, AMD Link4 and more. These features can boost performance with increased frame rates and responsiveness, while helping extend battery life."

AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processor supports USB4, latest LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory standards enabling higher speed of data and memory access.

ROG Ally and AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processors are designed to support popular operating system Windows 11, the gamers along with playing game can also engage other Windows 11 applications. That means this device ideally speaking should allow Microsoft office applications and browsers such as Chrome and other browsers to work on it. Asus to launch ROG Ally on May 11, more details on this will emerge after the launch. Gamers can play hundreds of PC games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (sold separately) and seamless access to their game libraries.

“At Xbox, we put the player at the center by giving them choice on the experience and device that best fit their gaming needs,” said Roanne Sones, head of Xbox hardware. “With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate we’re bringing hundreds of games to new devices, including on-the-go gaming handhelds, and are excited to see AMD investing in new processors to grow this device category.”

AMD said the Ryzen Z1 processors will be available first in the Asus ROG Ally. More information about the Asus ROG Ally availability and pricing will be announced by Asus on May 11.
