Rakon has launched a timing portfolio for AI data centres and hyperscale infrastructure, including the Vulcan ROV7050XD Digitally Controlled OCXO, which supports frequencies up to 1 GHz.
The portfolio covers communication, synchronisation and compute, with high-frequency, high-stability and low-jitter OCXOs, TCXOs and XOs for applications ranging from optical transceivers and high-speed switches to NICs, DPUs and AI accelerators. Rakon says the components provide different levels of stability, noise performance, frequency and digital control according to their position in the AI architecture.
Wil Hsieh, head of products (Commercial BU) at Rakon, said: “AI performance isn't determined by processing power alone. Keeping data moving quickly and compute resources working efficiently also depends on the timing infrastructure around them. Better timing helps reduce communication and synchronisation bottlenecks, enabling AI infrastructure to make more effective use of its available compute performance. Rakon's portfolio addresses that challenge from optical connectivity and network synchronisation right through to the compute tray.”
The ROV7050XD is designed for precision network timing and synchronisation. It combines OCXO-class stability, I²C digital control and programmable frequencies in a compact 7 x 5 mm class hermetic package. Its frequency stability is ± 10 ppb, with a frequency slope of ±0.5 ppb/°C.
Rakon is also extending its High Frequency Ultra Low Jitter XO series toward frequencies up to 1.25 GHz. The RXO2520NT and RXO2016NT models operate at 500 MHz and deliver 30 fs RMS phase jitter and ±10 ppm FvT. Models at 625 MHz and 1.25 GHz are scheduled to follow in 2027, while a 1.2 x 1.0 mm package is targeted for late 2027. The series is aimed at optical transceivers, SERDES and next-generation data centre networking.
The ROV7050XD is now sampling. Rakon says its product development also includes digital control, high-frequency differential technology, XMEMS resonator technology and proprietary ASIC design.
