Rohde & Schwarz has introduced MXO AI Connect, software that links AI assistants to MXO oscilloscopes for natural-language interaction, instrument-specific guidance and automation.

Modern test environments combine complex measurements, broad instrument functionality and growing automation requirements. MXO AI Connect links the reasoning capabilities of a user’s chosen AI model with instrument-specific knowledge from Rohde & Schwarz, helping the assistant interpret requests and interact with the connected instrument.

Rohde & Schwarz Introduces MXO AI Connect for AI-Assisted Oscilloscope Workflows

MXO AI Connect supports all models of the MXO 3, MXO 4, MXO 5 and MXO 5C oscilloscope series, as well as R&S ScopeStudio. The locally installed Model Context Protocol (MCP) server runs on a user’s PC or a shared lab host, with no additional software required on the instrument. Engineers can choose an AI client such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, along with a large language model and data handling policy. The server accesses model-specific MXO help content and communicates with instruments through standard VISA connections such as HiSLIP, VXI-11 or TCP/IP, keeping instrument communication within the local environment; front-panel operation remains available while the AI assistant is connected.

Typical AI-assisted workflows include understanding, with instrument-specific knowledge, documentation and application guidance; configuration, translating natural-language requests into instrument functions, settings and automation approaches; analysis, using AI models to review measurement results, identify waveform characteristics and assess data relationships or behavior; and automation, coordinating instrument control, analysis methods and software automation across broader test workflows.

Philip Diegmann, Vice President Digital & Power Test Solutions at Rohde & Schwarz, said: “AI offers engineers a new way to work with increasingly capable test instruments. With MXO AI Connect, they can move more quickly from a measurement task to the right instrument setup and from there to analysis and automation. This makes it easier to work with complex instrument functions and integrate them into broader test workflows.”

MXO AI Connect is now available for the supported MXO oscilloscopes and R&S ScopeStudio. Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the software at electronica 2026 in Munich at booth A4.307.
