Infineon Technologies has introduced the XENSIV TLx49012, a family of four digital angle sensors based on Hall technology, built for demanding motor control applications in the automotive and industrial markets. As brushless DC motor adoption accelerates across automotive platforms and robotics enters a phase of rapid structural growth, angle sensors that combine high accuracy, low latency, and minimal design-in effort are becoming a critical system-level requirement.

The standout feature of the TLx49012 is a unique system self-calibration function that removes the need for customer-developed calibration routines and external reference encoders, cutting development effort and cost across the whole product lifecycle, from system design to end-of-line testing. Fully automatic initial calibration and continuous on-chip compensation support both on-axis and off-axis mounting, giving designers meaningful flexibility without added complexity.

The family offers best-in-class angle accuracy of better than 0.1° and an ultra-low latency of 1.5 µs, which makes it well suited to high-speed, highly dynamic motor systems that depend on precise, real-time rotor position feedback. It supports a magnetic field range of 20 mT to 120 mT, giving broad compatibility with the standard magnet configurations used across motor platforms in both markets. Multiple interface options, including SPI, ABZ, UVW, and PWM, make it easy to integrate into a wide range of motor controller architectures. Brushless DC motors are among the fastest-growing electromechanical components worldwide, driven by electrification in automotive and the scaling of robotics and automation infrastructure. The automotive-qualified variants (TLE49012) are ISO 26262 compliant and reach ASIL B, addressing the functional safety needs of modern automotive and robotics motor control systems.

Infineon's XENSIV sensor portfolio reduces design-in friction across many motor platforms while supporting consistent performance and qualification standards within each target market. The TLx49012 complements the wider XENSIV portfolio, which serves system designers in automotive, industrial, and consumer applications with a consistent development framework, ISO 26262 compliant design flows, and a market-leading cost and performance proposition backed by decades of sensor manufacturing expertise.
