Toshiba Starts Mass Production of Compact Microcontrollers with Arm Cortex-M4 Core for Single-Motor Control Applications

Toshiba has begun mass production of its TXZ+ Family Entry-Class M4L Group, a line of compact microcontrollers built around an Arm Cortex-M4 processor core with a floating-point unit, aimed at next-generation home appliances, consumer products, and industrial equipment.
 
The new chips respond to growing demand across these product categories for better energy efficiency, smaller designs, IoT connectivity, and easier long-term maintenance, all of which require motor-control microcontrollers that support precise control while also making development easier and systems more reliable.
 
Toshiba designed these microcontrollers specifically for controlling a single motor, integrating dedicated motor-control hardware, security features, and functional safety measures all on one chip. By handling motor-control calculations with dedicated hardware circuits rather than the general-purpose CPU, the chip reduces the processing load on the CPU, allowing for more efficient and precise motor control.
 
The microcontrollers run on an Arm Cortex-M4 core with a floating-point unit at speeds up to 80MHz, and support a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, making them compatible with both older 3V- and 5V-based systems while giving newer designs more flexibility.
