TDK Releases E13 EM Series Compact SMD Gate Drive Transformers for xEV Applications
TDK Corporation has introduced the E13 EM series (ordering code: B8280*F*), a line of IGBT/FET gate drive transformers designed for automotive 500 V battery systems. The components provide isolation for traction inverters and compact DC-DC converters in xEV platforms.
The transformers use a compact SMD design with a MnZn ferrite core. They have a footprint of 18.6 x 14.6 mm and a maximum height of 12 mm. Supported operating frequencies range from 100 kHz to 400 kHz. The series is available for flyback and push-pull topologies, with inductance values from approximately 1.8 µH to 240 µH and saturation currents up to 9 A. Low leakage inductance and optimized winding structures support signal transmission.

The E13 EM series offers creepage distances of up to 6.3 mm and clearance distances of up to 5.5 mm. It meets basic insulation requirements at 500 V DC and reinforced insulation at 300 V according to IEC 60664-1 and IEC 61558-2-16. The components handle transient overvoltages up to 2500 V and have a partial discharge extinction voltage of 900 V. They are qualified to AEC-Q200 Rev. E and rated for operation from -40 °C to +150 °C. The parts are RoHS compatible and suitable for lead-free reflow soldering per JEDEC J-STD-020F.
