PicoJool Introduces 200G VCSELs and MicroVCSELs for AI Data Center Scale-Up
PicoJool has announced the introduction of 200G Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) and MicroVCSELs targeted at scale-up applications in AI data centers. The products feature bandwidth exceeding 37 GHz. Sampling of chip-level products is scheduled to begin in the next quarter, including quad 100G, quad 200G, and 32x50G NRZ uVCSELs for slow and wide applications.
The company is currently working with system startups and hyperscalers to define next-generation pluggable, near-packaged optics (NPO), and co-packaged optics (CPO) solutions.
PicoJool’s 200G VCSEL products incorporate parallel optics and packaging innovations. The designs and process recipes have been transferred to WIN Semiconductor and other gallium arsenide (GaAs) foundries. GaAs-based VCSELs provide unconstrained volume production capacity, avoiding supply bottlenecks associated with other laser technologies. WIN Semiconductor has shipped more than a billion VCSEL chips over the past decade for 3D sensing applications.
PicoJool plans high-volume ramp of the 200G VCSEL products in early 2027.
Al Yuen, founder and CEO of PicoJool, stated: “We are excited to enable many optical transceiver and hyperscale companies to meet the growing demand for scale up optical connectivity solutions with an exciting product line and roadmap. Our partnership with WIN Semiconducto...
