802.11ac Wi-Fi Silicon IP cores for your smart connection device

When it come to high speed wireless in mobile, the defacto is WiFi. The applications employing wifi range from an IoT home monitoring camera to digital video streaming on TV. When a SoC designer wanted to design a chip for smart connected application quickly than its competitor, one of the ways is to find silicon tested quality IPs. These days WiFi becoming common in many wireless devices, There is a huge need of tested WiFi silicon IPs. This article gives you some idea on the present availability of WiFi semiconductor IP cores.

Greece based Antcor is offering what it claims as world’s first 802.11ah IP. The 802.11ah standard, which operates in sub-1GHz bands with favorable propagation characteristics and is based on a physical layer that inherits the advancements of 802.11ac.

Antcor used DSP based platform called Proteus which processes the control and advanced datapath phy for WiFi offering time and cost advantage.

France based RivieraWaves offers Wi-Fi and also Bluetooth IP for ASIC and FPGA designs. RivieraWaves offer include 802.11abg IP, 802.11n, 802.11ac IPs.

Bangalore based semiconductor IP vendor Ittiam Systems offers IP cores for IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11n, WPA , WPA2 , WMM , WMM-PS , WPS and EAP protocols.

Another leading processor IP vendor Imagination Technologies offers WiFi IP cores. Its Ensigma Series4 ‘Explorer’ radio processor unit (RPU) cores is widely popular with customers such as Ineda, Toshiba, Toumaz, Rockchip, Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics, S2-Tek, Frontier Silicon, Orca Systems
