USB-Serial Bridge Controllers feature touch sensing and battery-charge detection

Cypress Semiconductor has added a new family of USB-Serial bridge controllers CY7C6521x providing dual-configurable serial channels for UART/SPI/I2C communication along with its CapSense capacitive touch-sensing technology. Cypress provides proprietary drivers to support multiple operating systems. The family features battery-charge detection compliant to Version 1.2 of the USB-Implementers Forum (USB-IF) Battery Charging specification. These USB-Serial controllers consume only 5 uA in standby current. The new family includes three devices, all of which are certified by the USB-IF. The CY7C65211 and CY7C65215 offer single- and dual-configurable serial channels, respectively, with each capable of UART, I2C, and SPI communication. The CY7C65213 provides a low power USB-to-UART bridge controller. The new controllers target a wide range of applications, including medical equipment, industrial equipment, point-of-sales terminals, USB-to-UART and RS232 cables, gaming systems, and test and measurement equipment. “With their configurability, touch-sensing and battery-charging compliance, our USB-Serial bridge controllers deliver a combination of features and performance that no competitive offerings can match,” said Badri Kothandaraman, Executive Vice President of the Data Communications Division at Cypress. “The USB-Serial bridge controllers enable our customers to leverage ...
