The performance enhanced Reva EV e2o getting ready for launch in 2013

As per latest media reports, India’s only electric car maker Mahindra Reva is soon launching 4 seater ev with enhanced mileage. The new model e2o is reported to be giving 100 KMs mileage per charge. 20 KMs more than the present version of its electric car. The interior space is expected to be as good as most of the 1000/1200cc petrol cars in the market. The look of e2o is also better than the present version of Reva.

The new car is expected to be on roads before 1st half 2013, as per reports. The price is expected to be Rs 1.5 to 2.0 Lakh higher than the present version, but the company has not officially announced the price yet.

For an electric car in Bangalore city, 120 KMs mileage is better than the 100. Two farthest points traveled quite normally in Bangalore is electronics city on Hosur Road to International Airport Road on Bellary Road, which is around 53 KMs one way, so a mileage of 100KMs /per single charge is risky for routes like this. Not only in Bangalore, in most of the other cities, distance to airport is longer, so the 100KMs mileage is not so impressive.

Other plus point of new e2o is use of Lithium Ion Batteries instead of Lead Acid. Lithium batteries reduce the weight of the car and helps in fast charging. However the battery cost is higher than Lead Acid.

Overall, except for the mileage, EV such as e2o is going to be far better than any other fossil fuel driven cars, both by driving comfort as well as fuel cost/KM.
