Social cause initiative by Applied Materials to serve homeless children

The Applied Materials Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Applied Materials has announced it is extended its partnership with SOS Children's Villages of India by sponsoring family homes for 30 children, an 18seater school bus and solar lights for the main avenue of the village at an event in Bangalore. The main objective of the SOS Children's Villages of India is to help homeless children by giving them a family, home and a strong foundation for an independent and secure life.

"We are very happy to be associated with Applied Materials. This year they are supporting us with family sponsorship, donating solar lights and also providing transportation for school. SOS Children's Village today is a result of association of people, participation of people, commitment of people, hardworking mothers and co-workers. We have 32 functioning villages now and we support more than 6,000 children in our family based care and 14,000 children in our second programme called family strengthening programme. All in all we support about 20,000 children, looking towards their bright future and we would like to extend our gratitude to Applied Materials for their continued support to our efforts" Titus Poovkulam, Zonal Director, SOS Children's Villages India

Today, there are 40 SOS Children's Villages in India including facilities for Tibetan children and a new village coming up at Mumbai, 122 allied projects like Kindergartens, Schools, Social, Medical, Vocational Training Centers and Outreach Initiatives spread across the country reaching out to over 15,000 children.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Madhusudan Atre, President, Applied Materials India said, "Applied Materials is committed to investing in meaningful social causes in every community it operates in. The concept of SOS addresses a very critical aspect of bringing up children - that of providing them inclusive growth. We strongly believe that a society's development depends largely on providing sustainable and equal opportunities of livelihood to its citizens. We have been associated with SOS Children's Village for more than two years now and the main objective of our collaboration has been to relentlessly support nutrition, health and education of these children. Our interaction with SOS has been extremely gratifying and we hope to continue our relationship in the years to come."
