India's share in global mobile phone market: 15% by shipment

In the year 2013 a total of 247 million mobile phones/handsets shipped in India with a Y-o-Y growth of 11.6%,according to latest market research by Cyber Media Research (CMR). In the 4th quarter of 2013, more than 70 million mobile handsets shipped, adds CMR.

Compared to estimated worldwide shipment of 1700 million in 2013, India's share is close to 15%.

CMR also finds the total smart phones shipped in 2013 are 41 million units with a Y-o-Y growth of 172.2%. In the overall mobile phone market, Nokia still the number one seller in India followed by Samsung and Micromax, and in the smart phone market Samsung is number one followed by Micromax and Karbonn, according to CMR.

In the 4th quarter 2013, a total of 14 Million smart phones were shipped, as per CMR.

The India smartphones market during 2H 2013 saw a rise in shipments by 60.3% over 1H 2013, taking the overall contribution of smartphones to 16.6% for the full year. Further, 65.8% of the total smartphones shipped in the country were 3G smartphones during CY 2013.

The total revenue can be estimated higher than 5 Billion US$ from Smart Phones sales. The total revenue for ordinary mobile can be estimated around 6 Billion US$. This easily crosses a total revenue of US$10 Billion from total mobile phone sales.
