Toshiba introduces application processors for wearable devices

Date: 28/03/2014
Toshiba is sampling its new application processor for wearable electronics devices in May 2014. TZ1001MBG is latest addition to its ApP Lite family. Mass production of this device is expected to start in September, 2014.

The applications targeted include healthcare, personal care, activity monitors, smart watches, bracelet- and glasses-type devices.

The new application processor has accelerometer, ARM Cortex-M4F processor , flash memory, and a Bluetooth Low Energy controller. This device allows connection of external sensor to the chip.

Toshiba is also developing "TZ1011MBG", which adds a gyroscope and a magnetometer to the package of devices described above.

The Built-in high resolution ADCs convert analog signals from external sensors, such as pulse wave and electrocardiogram (ECG), into digital data, and deliver it to the internal processor.

On-chip Bluetooth wireless communication function helps in connecting the wearable device to smartphones and tablets.

Flash Memory Size: 8Mbit
I/O Interface: USB, SPI, I2C, UART, 12bit ADC, 24bit Delta-Sigma ADC.
