Mediatek expands its ops in India

Fabless Taiwan based SoC semiconductor chip maker MediaTek opened its new facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka at RMZ Eco World in Marathalli. The new office is to provide R and D, sales and marketing support to MediaTek India. MediaTek already has a facility in Bellandur. MediaTek recently also opened an office in Mumbai.

Mediatek trained engineers from Indian mobile phone companies on various aspects of designing smart phones. The new office to support growing MediaTek India's business in emerging smartphone technology and other key technology sectors such as 5G, imaging and automotive.

Co-Chief Operating Officer & Executive VP Jeffrey Ju, Mediatek commented "The new MediaTek facilities here Bengaluru and in Mumbai demonstrate our confidence in India's growth infused economy as a key center of global innovation. MediaTek is about making great technology available to everyone. India is a shining example of how connecting billions of people and devices can help enhance how we all live, work or play."

Though Mediatek's recent success is more in smart phone market, MediaTek designs and sells chips for TVs, set-top boxes, DVD players, routers, tablets, fitness bands, smart watches and gaming stations. Automotive is now the new focus area for Mediatek.
The focus is now on critical areas of safety and autonomous driving, for which it is looking at Vision-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Precision Millimetre Wave (mmWave) Radar, among other innovations.

MediaTek said it has recently announced its support for Google Assistant and Android Things for IoT and smart-home products.
