ON Semiconductor acquires automotive radar technology developed by IBM's Israel team

ON Semiconductor has announced it is acquiring and licensing mmWave technology for automotive radar applications developed by IBM’s Haifa, Israel research team. On Semiconductor is already one of the top vendor in the image sensor market. With this licensing, it would offer single source for both image sensor as well as radar self driving cars. With this acquisition, On Semiconductor will have a design Centre in Israel.

Another Israel based company called NewSight Imaging is also into this market where it sells CMOS laser LiDAR image sensor-based chips, which are targeted not only automotive but also robotics, drone market and such vision processing modern autonomous mobile systems.

In a separate announcement for the medical electronics applications, On Semiconductor released a new CCD image sensor which can allow video imaging under reduced x-ray dosage conditions. The new KAF-09001 is compared to the previous KAF-09000 with the only difference of minimising overall x-ray exposure.
