7nm FPGAs not far away

Date: 27/05/2015
After the success of 28nm and 20nm FPGAs, Xilinx is going ahead in its collaboration with TSMC for the 7nm process and also more than Moore 3D IC tech for its programmable silicon ICs.

Moshe Gavrielov, President and CEO of Xilinx calls the success at 28nm, 20nm, and 16nm as "3Peat" Xilinx plans to introduce new 7nm products in 2017.

So, when can we estimate the availability of 7nm FPGAs in volumes: Earliest is around 24 months from now, if TSMC gets the new lithography tech right for acceptable yield, otherwise 36 months+ and also depends on the competition. "If my competitor does, I will do, come what may" . That's how so many 28nm node production is happening now from multiple fabs.
