Date: 09/04/2013
VIA Labs has made available of the SuperMUTT Pack USB test tool, which is part of the Microsoft USB Test Tool kit (MUTT) and an integral part of the Windows Hardware Certification Kit (WHCK). The SuperMuttPack integrates a VIA Labs VL811+ USB 3.0 Hub Controller and is designed to work with the MUTT family of devices.

VIA says MUTT devices such as the SuperMUTT Pack simplify USB compatibility and interoperability testing by simulating over 1,000 types of devices while introducing a rigorous, truly repeatable, and automated testing framework. Use of MUTT devices in conjunction with WHCK enables hardware companies to design, build, and certify higher quality USB-enabled systems and devices, ensuring the best possible user experience under Windows 8, explains VIA.

The SuperMUTTPack USB test tool kit is currently offered by VIA Labs on the VIA Labs online shop and includes one SuperMUTT Pack Device, a USB 3.0 cable, 12V power supply, and an instruction manual. The WHCK can be downloaded separately from Microsoft.

"The MUTT package will greatly benefit the industry on the whole in terms of quality which will lead to better user experiences with USB devices going forward," said Terrance Shih, Product Manager, VIA Labs, Inc. "Through our collaboration with Microsoft on this project we have been able to improve the reliability and overall quality of our USB 3.0 chips and devices by identifying and fixing a number of issues that would be difficult to uncover with traditional testing."
