BEL announces new executive positions

Mr Manmohan Handa took charge as Director (Bangalore Complex) of BEL on June 24, 2014. He was GM (Missile Systems)/BG before his elevation.

Mr Manmohan Handa joined BG Complex in 1978 after completing BE (Mechanical) from REC Kurukshetra. He served as AGM (Systems) and AGM (Antenna) at GAD from 2004-2008, before taking charge as GM (NAMU) in 2008. He was posted as GM (EM)/BG in 2010. In 2013, he took charge as GM (MS)/BG.

Mr Handa has been Programme Manager for two pan-India projects: POLNET and establishment of strategic communication network in Akhnoor, Poonch & Rajouri of J&K. He has led teams in the manufacture of high-end simulators for weapon and radar systems.

NAMU saw a turnaround in sales and profit during his tenure as GM. As GM (MS)/BG, he succeeded in supplying two squadrons of Akash Missile System for the Indian Air Force and equipment for ‘First of Production Model’ of Akash (Army version). As GM (EM)/BG, he was instrumental in the development of the new EVM with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail. He has also played a pivotal role in developing BEL’s low cost Tablet PC. Mr Handa, who holds a PG Diploma in Materials Management from the Indian Association of Materials Management, Bangalore, has handled diverse areas including production control, subcontracts, industrial engineering, management services and systems (turnkey solutions).

Two new GMs at BEL
Bangalore, June 3, 2014: Two senior officers have been elevated as General Managers at Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) on June 1, 2014. Mrs Hema Acharya has taken charge as GM (Internal Audit) at BEL’s Corporate Office while Mr Ranjan Banerjee has taken charge as Chief Scientist (Central Research Laboratory) at Ghaziabad.

Mrs Hema Acharya is a Chartered Accountant of the 1984 batch. She joined BEL in June 1986. She has worked in various capacities at different Strategic Business Units in BEL’s Bangalore Complex such as Electronic Warfare & Avionics, Components, Military Radar and Central Finance. She has handled various areas of Finance like costing, budget, compilation of accounts, taxation and corporate finance.

She has successfully co-ordinated the implementation of SAP in Components Division, which was the first division to go live in BEL. She has also continuously worked for system improvements in areas of indirect taxation such as VAT and Service tax. She has formulated guidelines for maintenance of cost accounting records and compliance with cost rules in BEL. She has been a part of various committees such as Gratuity Trust, Death Relief Fund and Committee for Prevention & Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace.

Mr Ranjan Banerjee, Chief Scientist (CRL)/GAD

Mr Ranjan Banerjee, Chief Scientist (CRL)/GAD, was Principal Scientist (CRL)/GAD before his elevation. Mr Ranjan Banerjee joined BEL in 1983 as a Probationary Engineer after graduating from IIT Kanpur.

He started his career working on the design of an indigenously developed Weather Data Display System, used to support the cyclone warning radar of BEL in gathering information on climate conditions in 2D & 3D. Subsequently, he focussed on radar data processing, involving the processing of plot data information from radars for conversion to tracks. Mr Banerjee was part of the BEL team involved in the development of the first indigenous Combat Management System (CMS) for the Indian Navy in the early 1990s. The system was established onboard ship by 2000. Since then, he has been associated with various CMS projects for all arms of the defence.

Mr Banerjee, along with his team, received the Raksha Mantri Award for Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS) Test Bed version in 2006. He also made a mark working in prestigious projects such as Integrated Air Command & Control System for the Air Force, various CMS systems for the Indian Navy & BSS & Air Defence Control and Reporting System for the Indian Army.
