SIA reports global semiconductor Industry sales in Jan 2024 down by 2.1% compared to Dec 2023

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has released its latest report on global semiconductor industry sales, revealing significant growth compared to the previous year but a slight decline from the previous month. These insights, compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, offer valuable data on the industry's performance.
Year-on-Year Growth: In January 2024, global semiconductor industry sales reached $47.6 billion, marking a notable increase of 15.2% compared to January 2023. This growth trend reflects the industry's resilience and adaptability amidst evolving market dynamics.
Regional Performance: Regionally, year-on-year sales exhibited positive trends in China (26.6%), the Americas (20.3%), and Asia Pacific/All other regions (12.8%). However, sales declined in Japan (-6.4%) and Europe (-1.4%), indicating varying market conditions across different regions.
Month-on-Month Comparison: Despite the year-on-year growth, month-on-month sales experienced a decline across all markets in January 2024. Asia Pacific/All Other regions (-1.4%) witnessed a slight decrease, while the Americas (-1.5%), China (-2.5%), Europe (-2.8%), and Japan (-3.9%) saw more significant declines. This suggests short-term fluctuations influenced by various factors, including seasonal trends and market dynamics.
The semiconductor industry continues to demonstrate robust growth, with January 2024 sales showing significant improvement compared to the previous year. However, the month-on-month decline highlights the volatility inherent in the market, influenced by factors such as regional economic conditions, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical tensions. As the industry navigates through these challenges, strategic collaboration and innovation remain key to sustaining growth and addressing emerging opportunities.
“The global semiconductor market started the new year strong, with worldwide sales increasing year-to-year by the largest percentage since May 2022,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “Market growth is projected to continue over the remainder of the year, with annual sales forecast to increase by double-digits in 2024 compared to 2023.”
