TrendForce: 2Q22DRAM revenue of US$25.59 billion with 6.5% QoQ growth
Semiconductor memory market research specialist TrendForce reported that DRAM industry revenue in the second quarter of 2022 has reached US$25.59 billion, growing at 6.5% QoQ. TrendForce says there was a weak demand for DRAMs used in PC and smart phones, which were hit hard by inflation, however the demand for DRAM used in servers remained strong in 1H22, resulting in growth of quarterly shipment growth of three top vendors to 5~10%.
The top three makers of the DRAM based on revenue are Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. The combined market share of Samsung, SK Hynix is analysed at 70.9% of total revenue. Whereas the third biggest vendor Micron benefited from demand for servers and automobiles with its 2Q22 revenue reaching US$6.27 billion, an increase of 9.7% QoQ and highest among the three.
The forecast revenue for 3Q22 is likely to decline for all these three vendors, due to higher inventory buildup, and fall of selling price.
In terms of production capacity planning, TrendForce sees Samsung's wafer starts continued to increase this year, and each factory is close to full capacity. While Samsung’s new P3L plant will start contributing to the production of DRAM products early next year and give priority to DRAM products using the 1alpha nm process, significantly increasing the proportion of 1alpha nm production, says TrendForce.
On SK Hynix, TrendForce says its w...
