Motorola and Vocera to provide wireless
VoIP smart phones for medical-staff
VoIP is getting into some unique market with the support
of wireless networks such WLAN and WiMAX. One such market
is to provide voice and data services for medical staff
in the hospital.
Motorola and Vocera have agreed to mix their technologies
to provide Internet Protocol (IP) based smart phones and
digital assistant to hospital staff so that they can monitor
the patient better. They are more exactly called as Enterprise
Digital Assistants (EDAs) and VoWLAN smart phones i.e.,
Wireless LAN based VoIP phones
The EDAs from Motorola MC70, MC75, and MC55 will have Vocera's
windows mobile supporting software client to provide VoWLAN
solutions.
The Vocera Smartphone does all the phone tasks and provides
voice-enabled calling and messaging capabilities within
the enterprise using Motorola's TEAM VoWLAN solution. Vocera
will begin shipping the Vocera Smartphone in the third quarter
of 2009.
These semi rugged electronic mobile assistants and phones
have set of applications tailored for hospital needs, such
as medical records in electronics form.
"Motorola is committed to delivering real-time voice
and data to the point of care, helping hospital staff take
advantage of the latest advancements in wireless communication
to stay productive and focused on the job at hand,"
said Vivian Funkhouser, principal, Global Healthcare Solutions
Group, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "By
extending the Vocera client onto Motorola's voice-capable
devices, medical staff can stay connected, quickly access
electronic medical records, reduce the chance for medical
errors and spend more time taking care of patients."
In healthcare, it should be like, lift the phone and talk
without any waiting for connection. This joint effort is
to provide such no-wait communication services for health
care industry so that there is no second of time is wasted
in communicating the alarm and action.
"The Vocera platform delivers instant communication
of critical information at the right time, to the right
person, anywhere in a facility," said Brent Lang, president
and COO of Vocera. "Through this agreement with Motorola,
we are expanding the Vocera platform to a range of enterprise
devices to meet the increasingly complex communication needs
of the healthcare industry. With these choices - the wearable
Vocera badge, the Vocera software client for the Motorola
EDAs, and the new Vocera Smartphone - we are bringing the
Vocera experience to new groups of in-building mobile workers."
