64 bit ARM servers: Both chips and systems now in supply
If you are looking for higher server performance at low power you can start exploring using ARM 64 bit servers for your future enterprise computing including web hosting, cloud computing and many such systems.
SoftIron started shipping its 64-bit ARMv8-based enterprise-grade server motherboard designed using 64-bit ARM-based X-Gene Server on a Chip from Applied Micro. It is said that these server boards offer twice the performance-per-watt of leading x86 alternatives and has the potential to be deployed at twice the rack density.
SoftIron's Mother Board is available in MicroATX form factor and is powered by 8 core ARM-based 64-bit X-Gene CPU. The board offers 2x memory channels (240-pin 72bit DIMM) up to 128 GB memory, 4x SATA 3.0 ports , 2x 10GigE ports , 2x 1GigE RJ45 ports, 2x USB3.0 connector, and PCIe 3.0 (8-lane) connector.
Hewlett Packard (HP) has made available its first 64-bit ARM Server With Applied Micro's X-Gene ARM 64-bit server SoCs. If you are Dell fan, Dell is also soon selling ARM 64 bit servers, it has already displayed its ARM 64 bit based concept storage server at the TechCon conf. in US.
