Keyboard and mouse featured remote-control design with voice and motion control

Marvell has unveiled a new advanced remote control platform featuring voice search and gesture recognition for Smart TVs and Smart Homes at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

"By offering this integrated advanced Smart remote control platform to complement Marvell's award-winning ARMADA 1500 series SoC for Smart TVs and Smart homes, we've created a total solution for voice- and gesture-enhanced, human-machine interaction that is user friendly," said Winston Chen, vice president of the Smart Home Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "Consistent with Marvell's vision for improving the way the world enjoys the always-on , always-connected lifestyle, the Marvell platform demonstrates Marvell's leadership in designing end-to-end, cost-effective and user-friendly entertainment options for Google TV and Smart TVs."

The Marvell remote control platform with software stack and tool chains is an integrated, customizable, turnkey solution for mass-market remote control applications.

The platform offers four advanced functions in addition to standard remote control capabilities:
Voice control: Users can speak into the integrated built-in microphone and command the Smart TV to check weather, find directions, display movie show times and more
Nine-axis motion and gesture: Provides joystick-like functionality for gaming control
Air Mouse: For use as a wireless mouse to operate a Smart TV for activities such as Web surfing, gaming, etc.
Touch and keypad: Supports an optional full-size keyboard on the back of the device for easy text input
The platform is powered by Marvell's 88MZ100 ARM microcontroller supporting both Bluetooth and ZigBee RF4CE connectivity.
